Practical Aspects and Best Practices in Europe
7-9 October 2009, Malta

Questions in discussion:
- What is the role of selective collection in the future
European recycling society?
- Do we need specific instruments to support recycling in this
period of crisis? If so, which ones?
- How can recycling contribute to tackling climate change?
The new EU Waste Framework Directive introduces a requirement of a 50% recycling rate for paper, metal, plastic and glass by 2020.
To help you get ready for this, WasteServ Malta (the Maltese public waste management company) and ACR+ are organizing a major international conference on "Selective Collection of Municipal Waste - Practical Aspects and Best Practices in Europe" on 8-9 October in Malta. On this occasion, ACR+ will also hold its annual General Assembly.
Programme Highlights
The conference will tackle the various aspects of municipal waste selective collection, with a specific focus on the issue of islands and touristic cities.
With EU experts giving new insights and with presentations based on best practices from all over Europe, the conference sessions will focus on:
- Evolution of European policy in relation to waste collection issues
- Collection modalities for different waste flows (dry recyclables, bio-waste, bulky waste)
- Optimization of the selective collection of waste (legal, economic, educational instruments, performance indicators)
- Recycling and climate change.
