Objectives

With the release of various Thematic Strategies about waste, products and resources, and a strategy of “Better Regulation” which targets waste as a priority, it is clear that European Commission has opened the door to a complete revision of all the waste regulation.

It is essential that this revision is fully informed and based on the knowledge and experiences of the actors on the ground.

This event, organized by several international organizations, beneath the “patronship” of Christina Narbona, the Spanish Minister of the Environment and Evelyne Huytebroeck, Minister of the Environment of the Brussels Region, aims to clarify stakeholders positions on the revision of the Waste framework Directive and to feed the debate on a Better Regulation in the field of :

  • Waste Prevention
  • Reuse
  • Organic waste management
  • Recycling
     

Structure

The conference is organised in order to manage the maximum time discussion with the public.

The conference will be organised in three main parts :

  • A introductive session with : 
    - presentation of the Draft Directive by the EC
    - presentation of the positions by the European Parliament and the Committee   of the Regions
    - statements by the Ministers of the Environment from Spain and Belgium
  • 4 thematic sessions
  • A final session with a presentation by rapporteurs of the conclusions of the    thematic sessions
    Each thematic session will include :
    - A keynote speech by a technician/expert, to introduce the issue and present stakes and suggestions for amendments
    - A roundtable with representatives of :
              > Member States
              > Local and regional authorities
              > Private companies
              > Ngo's
              > Recyclers
    -A discussion with the public
