It is common that in the holiday period the public roads are filled with more passers than usual. In this regard the Region of Wallonia, member of ACR+, has set up a raising awareness campaign drawing attention to the need to keep the road networks clean. 300 signs will be placed on the public networks in Wallonia for this initiative.

They invite to keep in the vehicle all the small waste generated during a journey and thrown it afterwards in the bins provided for this purpose, or in the bins found at the destinations. Region of Wallonia argue that this simple gesture will protect the environment but also reduce the public spending as over the course of a year 4,300 tons of waste is collected for a budget of more than EUR 6 million.

Drivers that do not respect these rules are subject to penalties of EUR 100 for cans, cigarettes or any other waste thrown out from the window, or at least EUR 150 for bags containing household waste for instance.
