ACR+ member LIPOR and its associated municipalities launched “Terra-à-Terra” project aiming at implementing composting in private or institutional buildings with a garden. Over the next 24 months, 8 municipalities (Espinho, Gondomar, Maia, Matosinhos, Porto, Póvoa de Varzim, Valongo and Vila do Conde) will be involved in the project and 2000 composters will be delivered annually, affecting over 4000 citizens.

The purpose of the project is to extend the practice of home and community composting and to boost the local recovery of organic waste. This should prevent organic waste generation and avoid the centralised collection and treatment of this waste fraction, reducing the environmental and economic impacts associated with the process and improving the quality of life of the affected population.

“Compostagem lá em Casa” (“Composting at home") is the message chosen for the awareness campaign related to the home composting project. It aims at underlining the importance of local treatment for the organic waste.
