From 8 to 11 October 2018, Brussels was bustling with life as thousands of practitioners and experts gathered for the European Week of Regions and Cities 2018. ACR+ was of course a very active participant of this year’s edition, not only assisting to some of the sessions but also providing support to its members Cleantech region, Maribor, and OVAM for the organisation of side-events, respectively on the role of regions in the transition towards a circular economy, circular economy for sustainable development, and on aiming at a circular city portal. The network was also represented by other members, such as Dublin, Navarra or Zero Waste Scotland which gave presentations during these events.

Amongst the highlights of the week, Janez Potočnik, former European Commissioner for Environment, gave a highly motivational key-note speech during the event organised by Maribor, focusing on the stakes for resource and well being and the role of of circular economy to support the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goal 12 on sustainable consumption and production. It was also interesting to hear more about Maribor and Cleantech Region’s strategies regarding circular economy, receive more details on the new waste law from Navarra and discover how Zero Waste Scotland is supporting circular businesses on its territory.

When available, link to presentations and summaries of the events will be posted on the events page on the ACR+ website.
