Members of the public in Scotland are being called upon to have their say on how deposit return could work best for the country. A public consultation on a Scottish deposit return scheme was officially opened by the Scottish Government on 27 June 2018. The aim of the consultation is to gather views in order to design an effective deposit return system that will work well for everyone in Scotland, providing increased recycling rates and quality of recycling, reductions in littering and business opportunities.

It includes choices such as what types of materials or products will have a deposit on them, how much the deposit should be, and where customers can get the deposit back. ACR+ member Zero Waste Scotland has prepared four examples of how different choices on Scotland’s deposit return scheme could work together. These are contained within the consultation document. The examples demonstrate how different choices on a deposit return scheme could work together.
