This summer ACR+ member the Catalan Waste Agency has initiated a pilot project of selective collection of syringes, needles and other sharp elements by installing collection boxes in the waste collection facilities of five municipalities. As from January 2019, other municipalities can join this scheme. Citizens of these municipalities will no longer have to deposit these waste in the residual waste fraction. It will then be adequately treated, that is incinerated as sanitary waste. The Catalan Waste Agency issued a leaflet and an informative leaflet to accompany the pilot project, specifying how these waste must be stored at home before taking it to the collection points.
