On 1 January 2019, the ACR+ member City of Warsaw launched its new municipal waste separation system. It is based on 5 containers: metals and plastics, paper, bio-waste, glass, and mixed waste.

The changes awaiting Warsaw’s residents not only involve more waste fractions for a more thorough separation but also a completely new bio-waste fraction, which includes kitchen waste (except for animal-origin waste, fat, or bones).

The transition to the new system will take a few weeks. In the beginning, the old system will apply in bin shelters with only 3 containers, instead of 5, and a substantial part of the previously used containers will simply be relabelled.
