ACR+ member Nantes Métropole and the City of Nantes are stepping up their efforts with an ambitious cleanliness plan that includes eleven new measures. The programme includes a strengthened public service adapted to citizens’ use of public space, an emphasis on awareness-raising campaigns as well as an improved system of fines and monitoring.

The plan foresees certain changes in waste collection. Namely, the city will continue developing a pilot project for cardboard collection from the shops. Additionally, it will install 100 additional collection points for glass as well as several new collection points for textiles. It will also expand a network of collection points for bulky waste from 13 to 30 by 2020.

Starting from January 2019, the city will create a “green brigade” specifically intended to combat illegal dumping. Its five members will carry out mediation mission and if needed issue fines of up to 68 euros. Furthermore, the city will elaborate several awareness raising actions such as awareness days on waste collection and sorting, awareness campaign on cleanliness and clean-up days. Lastly, a “Zero Cigarette Butt” project will be carried out in fifty cafes and bars that will place ashtrays outside their premises and offer 10,000 disposable ashtrays to their customer. Collected cigarette butts will be recycled.
