Delivering the circular economy in cities and regions

From 10 Octobre 2018 09:00 until 10 Octobre 2018 11:00

Scotland has been selected as this year's host nation for the Circular Economy Hotspot #CEHotspotScot — a major international event to showcase our nation's progressive approach to developing a circular economy and the best of our burgeoning circular businesses to a global audience.

Hosted by ACR+ member Zero Waste Scotland in Glasgow, the unmissable programme includes visits to pioneering Scottish businesses, sessions led by the foremost names in circular economy policy and innovation, and extensive networking opportunities.

Zero Waste Scotland will host a workshop on Wednesday 10 October to present this and more about the circular economy in action in Scotland.

The confirmed speakers for the workshop include:

  • Iain Gulland, CEO, Zero Waste Scotland and President, ACR+ Mr. Gulland will present the joined up approach to the circular economy in Scotland. The combined efforts of government, the regulator (SEPA) and agencies like Zero Waste Scotland, Scottish Enterprise and Highlands & Islands Enterprise are taking Scotland on a journey to a more circular economy. Scotland published a Circular Economy strategy in 2016 (Making Things Last). Since then, the pace of action has accelerated, helped in part by European Regional Development Funding. He will outline how Scotland will continue to play its part in accelerating a circular economy across Europe, and how his role as president of ACR+ will enable that.
  • Cheryl Robb, Cities & Regions Manager, Zero Waste Scotland Ms. Robb will outline the practical support that is provided by Zero Waste Scotland to help cities and regions understand the opportunities for the circular economy, and how this is generating results. She will outline the future plans to further integrate the circular economy with economic strategies for cities and regions in Scotland and share examples of best practice.
  • Teri Vogt, Circular North-east project manager, Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce Teri will provide a real-life example of how a Scottish city and region is taking forward the circular economy. Circular North-east aims to inform and inspire businesses in the North-east of Scotland to adopt circular strategies. By connecting companies across the region, they are helping them realise the benefits the circular economy can provide. This will include case studies of businesses that are already taking action.
