How to to transform the EU into a Low Carbon Economy? In what ways can material resource management contribute to a low carbon economy? What is the impact of improved material resource management practices on greenhouse gases? What are the differences between the various material resource management options regarding their impact and contributions to a low-carbon EU?

To answer these questions, ACR+ in cooperation with Zero Waste Europe and Zero Waste France, organised a conference aimed at discussing the transformation of the EU into a Low Carbon Economy and more specifically the promotion of low-carbon solutions for material resources issues. On top of the presentation of the report "The Potential Contribution of Waste Management to a Low Carbon Economy", the opportunities after the COP21 and the contributions of circular economy to a low carbon society were discussed.

To illustrate the discussion, the examples of Porto and Brussels, two European regional and local authorities engaged towards a low carbon economy, were presented. They were followed by a panel debate which dealt with the question of the transformation of the EU into a low carbon economy, with a focus on the raw materials issue in relation to the potential GHG emissions savings.
