ACR+ open letter to Members of the ENVI Committee of the European Parliament

Following the publication of the draft report on the Waste Package by MEP Simona Bonafè, MEPs had until 30 June 2016 to share their comments. ACR+ seized this opportunity to send an open letter to members of the ENVI Committee of the European Parliament. In this document ACR+ shares its views on the matter, based on its expertise in the field of material resources and the various experiences collected amongst its members.

The open letter highlights key points already developed in ACR+ position paper on the Circular Economy package 2.0, in particular on the importance of prevention, the implementation of legal and economic instruments, the selective collection of the organic fraction, the adoption of a single harmonized calculation method and the creation of a legal framework for industrial and commercial waste.

Most of these points are shared by many other organisations which already reacted to the European Parliament and other institutions’ contribution to the EU decision making process. It is for instance the case for waste prevention targets that are also defended by NGOs like EEB, or the use of the DREC indicator as a harmonised calculation method that has been promoted in particular by representatives of the recycling sector like EuRIC.
