URBANREC | Official kick-off

On 12 and 13 July, ACR+ and the project partners of the URBANREC project met in Valencia for the kick-off meeting of the project. URBANREC focuses on better management of urban bulky waste. The project had officially started in the beginning of June and a number of tasks tasks have already been ongoing since. During the meeting in Valencia partners planned the activities for the next few months.

URBANREC is financed under the EU Horizon 2020 programme and will last for 3.5 years. It aims to develop and implement eco-innovative and integral bulky waste management system, as well as to demonstrate their effectiveness in different regions. URBANREC will focus on the following raw materials streams – PU foam, wood, mixed hard plastics and mixed textiles. The project will seek improvements in both the logistics (collection and reuse) as well as the treatment processes of bulky waste (separation and disassembly through advanced techniques).

Four different geographical areas – Northern, Mediterranean, Eastern and South-Eastern – are represented by the 21 organisations which are partners to the project. The partners also represent the whole bulky waste value chain and include research organisations, SMEs, larger industrial organisations and local authorities. ACR+ is part of the consortium together with two of its members – Warszawa municipality and OVAM, the Public Waste Agency of Flanders.

ACR+ is the leader for dissemination and exploitation activities. ACR+ is also involved in the collection of information on bulky waste management and will coordinate the development of a guide on the implementation of a bulky waste strategy. It is also the organiser of a working group on bulky waste legislation with the objective to come up with concrete recommendations for improved legislation at EU level.
