ACR+ member EMULSA has signed a new collaboration agreement with Nestlé to implement the collection service for the recycling of coffee capsules in Gijón, using four Clean Points in the city. There, two different containers have been installed to collect the pods of plastic coffee and those of aluminium which will be then recycled by Nestlé at its central plant in Catalonia. In 2016, the four Clean Points recorded over 66,195 entries, 59% of them from private citizens.

Nestlé takes charge of all the aluminium and plastic capsules deposited in the Clean Points of Gijón, both its own and those of any other brand of the market. This system of recycling single-dose capsules of coffee is unique and pioneering and results in quality compost from coffee grounds.

The initiative, started in Switzerland, was launched in 2011 in Spain by the brand through the Plan of comprehensive recycling of Nestlé capsules, in collaboration with municipalities and municipal agencies. Currently there are more than 1,450 municipal capsules collection points that provide service to more than 16 million people from different towns in 12 autonomous communities such as Andalusia, Aragon, Asturias, Balearic Islands, Cantabria, Castilla y León, Catalonia, La Rioja , Madrid, Navarre, Basque Country and Valencia.
