The students of the Araxes Ikas Komunitatea public school in Betelu, managed by ACR+ member Government of Navarra, transform each year more than 1,650 kilos of organic matter into compost, which they later use in the organic garden and which allows the school canteen to be supplied in part with vegetables grown by their own students. To reduce waste, actions have been developed that have reduced lunch packaging by 76% by distributing specific containers to transport food.

This experience began in the 2017-2018 academic year with the launch of the optional subject ‘Sustainable School- Ikastetxe Sostengarria’. The students are in charge of drawing up and developing the annual waste management plan, although the execution is carried out with the participation of all the people linked to the school: students, families, teachers, canteen staff and cleaning staff.
