On 27 November 2017, during the Cities Forum 2017 organized by the European Commission and the city of Rotterdam, ACR+ participated in the Workshop on Circular Consumption and Governance, which was held at the BlueCity - a remodelled tropical swimming pool that now functions as a location for circular businesses around the city of Rotterdam. This workshop was organised in the framework of the Urban Agenda Partnership on Circular Economy (UAPCE).

During the workshop Håkon Jentoft, coordinator of the UAPCE, introduced the objectives and process of the Urban Agenda Partnership on Circular Economy. After this, David Berg, Director of Urban Management in the City of Rotterdam, presented Rotterdam’s own approach to the circular economy, by sharing how the city is working on turning Rotterdam into a living lab for the circular economy. The City of Oslo then highlighted its current work on reducing material consumption and turning consumption in a city from a linear to a circular way, and various waste prevention cases were discussed by the workshop participants. The workshop continued by addressing Governance issues and in particular how to break structural walls between thematic, organizational and political silos to realize the transition to circular economy.

The Partnership further discussed these topics during the 6th meeting of the UAPCE on 29 November. In particular, proposed actions addressing regulation, knowledge and funding were debated, covering topics related to, among others, urban resources management, economic incentives, or the concepts of “one-stop shop” and resource centres for circular economy.

ACR+ joined the UAPCE earlier in 2017 and several of ACR+ members are also participating (OVAM and Maribor). An action plan will be adopted during the 1st half of 2018 with key actions aimed at supporting the development of circular economy in urban areas.“
