Pre-waste kick-off - 28th and 29th April in Ancona.

The European Pre-waste project on exchanging good practices about waste prevention had its kick-off meeting on 28th and 29th April in Ancona, Italy.

600kg of waste. That is what each European produces on average every year. Even with the increase of recycling rates, it is way too much for our bin. The best waste is the one we do not produce, but local and regional authorities sometimes do not know where to start.

The Pre-waste project will help them by providing them with examples of good practices, feasibility studies and tools for assessing what works, as well as a common methodology for local and regional waste prevention policies. The project will end up with a minimum of 50 good practices on waste prevention, which public authorities will be able to use for the benefit of their citizens.

During the first meeting in Ancona, the project partners had the opportunity to start thinking about a common language and methodology for waste prevention, and to share concrete good practices of waste prevention policies on their territory.

The ten European partners involved in Pre-waste are Marche Region (IT), ORDIF - Ile-de-France Region Waste Management Observatory (FR), ACR+ - Association of Cities and Regions for Recycling and for sustainable Resource management (BE), Municipality of Roquetas de Mar (ES), Municipality of Sofia (BG), IBGE - Brussels Environment (BE), Public Cooperation Department of Ilfov County (RO), Municipality of Karlskrona (SE), Tampere Regional Solid Waste Management Ltd (FI) and WasteServ Malta (MT).

Pre-waste is a 3-year project co-financed by the INTERREG IV C programme from the European Commission.
