OVAM small2

ACR+ member OVAM launched two initiatives to address the issue of business waste. A communication campaigned entitled “I sort” was initiated on 4 December 2017. The aim of this campaign, spread on various channels and social media, is to raise awareness among businesses on sound waste management and current regulation. It is part of the communication effort carried out by OVAM in order to reduce commercial residual waste by 15% by 2022.

A second initiative comprises of various pilot projects set up in a business park in order to investigate how companies can collaborate to dispose of their waste in a best manner. Companies usually have their own solution to manage waste streams produced in large quantities. However they rarely have structural solutions in place for those produced in small quantities, dubbed “slow” waste streams by the OVAM, even when they are recyclable. Examples include batteries, waste electrical and electronic equipment, plastic foil, and polystyrene foam. In this framework, a collective collection of “slow” waste streams took place on 24 October 2017 in the Haasrode Research Park.
