In its ongoing efforts to help the general public reduce waste and increase its waste separation efforts, the Ministry of Sustainable Development, the Environment and Climate Change, in cooperation with ACR+ member Wasteserv Malta, has rolled out a new mobile application.

Through "The Don't Waste Waste" app users can search for a particular item or product and the app will give information on how to dispose of it correctly. It will also include a collection calendar which will allow the user to see all collection times and dates for organic, recyclable and residual waste in every locality. A detailed map that highlights the location of Bring-In sites, Civic Amenity Sites and other waste facilities and services may also be accessed.

The need for such app became evident, when statistics, released in the middle of February, found that in 2015, 68 percent of all waste was mixed municipal waste disposed of in black bags, with recyclable waste making up just 5.5 percent of the total. 93 percent of all waste was dumped at Ghallis landfill.
