The industrial symbiosis in the metropolis, the use of waste as a resource and the reuse of water around the Agricultural Park, were the three main themes discussed at the conference organised by Area Metropolitana de Barcelona (AMB) on 05 April 2017 in Barcelona. The conference called "The potential for circular economy in the metropolitan area of Barcelona", gathered more than 50 experts from different organizations and representatives of metropolitan municipalities.
The purpose of the event was to present the metropolitan strategy regarding the circular economy, and share the visions of the actors who play a key role in the development of the territory, as companies and municipalities.
The strategy is divided into three parts:
- An urban industrial symbiosis programme,
- A boost given to the transformation of waste into new raw materials
- The increase of agro-urban synergies around the Llobregat Agricultural Park.
