Plastic bags: an analysis of policy options and instruments
New report from ACR+ and ACR+MED

The issue of plastic bags is crucial in the debate on sustainable consumption, the need for a close-loop recycling society and the need to act against litter.

While the European Commission completed its public consultation on plastic waste management, the Association of Cities and Regions for Recycling and sustainable Resource management (ACR+) and its Mediterranean network ACR+MED are pleased to announce the release of the new report on plastic bags waste.

The report, entitled “Plastic Bags: Inventory of Political Instruments”, is an in-depth review of all the policies and practices currently implemented in relation to the plastic bags problematic.

It gives an overview of the various policy options and instruments in place to address the negative impact of the widespread use of single-use plastic bags, including the arguments justifying the particular choices.

The report also lists an inventory of political instruments country by country, including the European Union, Non-EU Europe, North Africa/Middle West and the rest of the world.

ACR+ and ACR+MED deeply believe that the issue of plastic bags is crucial in the debate on sustainable consumption, the need for a close-loop recycling society and the need to act against litter (and marine litter in particular).

The report is available in English on the ACR+ website: www.acrplus.org/technical-reports. It is free of charge for ACR+ and ACR+MED Members.
