According to the latest household waste report by ACR+ member OVAM, Flemish produced 2 kg less residual waste per person in 2019 compared to 2018, that is 143.5 kg in total. The regional target is of 138 kg per person per year in 2023. Among other good news, 69.9% of collected household waste is recycled, 34kg of good per inhabitant is reused via the second-hand market and the amount of commercial residual waste is no longer increasing. However, the amount of littering increased by 14% compared to 2017, with 22,641 tonnes in 2019. Flemish Minister of the Environment took immediate action and announced additional efforts to increase enforcement at various levels.
