PPI4Waste final conference will take place on 12 September 2017 in Brussels. Entitled “Feedback and opportunities for public procurement of innovation in the waste sector”, this one day event will present the main findings of the PPI4Waste project and how public procurement of innovation (PPI) can be experimented and stimulated in the field of waste management. It will also include a session exploring synergies between procurers and projects on innovative solutions.

In particular, the report on PPI4Waste lessons for PPI uptake in the waste sector - recently published on the PPI4Waste website - will be presented. It highlights the lessons learnt during the project, both regarding needs and barriers for public procurers operating in the waste sector and the possible solutions and opportunities which can be found.

THE PROJECT

The PPI4Waste project aims at:

•    Identifying common needs within the public sector in Europe;
•    Creating an Interest Group and a Purchasing Community to exchange and collaborate on the topic of PPI4Waste;
•    Implementing capacity-building workshops for cross-border public procurement of innovation;
•    Promoting dynamic coordinated procurement of eco-innovative solutions in the field of resource efficiency and waste prevention, reuse and recycling;
•    Promoting collaboration between the public and private sectors.

In particular, the project aims to develop know-how on PPI procedures and make state-of-the-art solutions accessible to other procurers. In turn, this will encourage a quicker market uptake of such solutions and improve the quality and efficiency of services provided by public authorities.
