DECISIVE A DECentralised management Scheme for Innovative Valorisation of urban biowastE – aims to help with the reform of urban waste management systems for our ever-growing cities and populations.

Project co-funded by the European Commission, under the Horizon 2020 programme.

Highlights

The thirteen DECISIVE partners have met in Copenhagen from 25 till 27 April 2017 for the project’s 2nd General Assembly.

Hosted by the University of Aarhus, the meeting was an excellent opportunity to look into recent project developments and achievements. While some tasks are ongoing, ACR+ being responsible for all the communication activities has presented the entire visual identity and more importantly the newly launched website.

Some part of the technical work was also presented, namely:

  • the successful first Solid State Fermentation test conducted by the Autonomous University of Barcelona based on 3 samples;
  • the specification of the micro anaerobic digester plant and a geographic information system (GIS) tool for assessing the optimal location for the two technologies DECISIVE is developing. The GIS tool is taking into consideration the source and potential outputs or beneficiaries (e.g. urban-farms).

More details are available on the DECISIVE project's website.

THE PROJECT

 This project will look to alter the current urban metabolism for organic matter, energy and biowaste, to a more circular economic model and to assess the impacts of these changes on the whole waste management cycle.

The project will thus contribute to change the management of urban organic material fluxes from a linear paradigm (import of goods without thoughtful interaction between external, peri- and intra-urban area, consumption, external disposal of waste) to a circular paradigm. It will help moving waste management towards a "Zero-Waste" strategy and to achieve the objectives of the European Resource Efficiency Roadmap.

ACTIVITIES

The objective of the DECISIVE project is to demonstrate the ability to decrease the generation of urban waste (from household or assimilated) and increase recycling and recovery by focusing efforts on decentralised management and valorisation of the organic fraction of waste, i.e. biowaste, in a short cycle.
