As the LIFE REthinkWASTE project is coming to its end, the project partners are getting involved in a series of training sessions in order to disseminate the findings and lessons learnt throughout the project to European municipalities, with the objectives of provoking their current waste collection systems and respective waste fees. On 20 September, ACR+ organised the first project training sessions in Porto, supported by ACR+ member LIPOR.

The training brought together 10 municipalities from the Greater Porto region and beyond, with the total of around 50 participants. Prior to the training session, a site visit was carried out to the municipality of Maia, and its environmental authority Maiambiente, to get acquainted with the Pay As You Throw scheme in the municipality. Regarding the training, the speaker line-up included experts in the field of waste collection, life cycle assessment and representatives of pilot cities and regions who have been through the implementation of Pay As You Throw and Know As You Throw schemes. Facilitated by ACR+, the training introduced the project to the audience and also reflected on the experiences and results in two of the project’s pilot municipalities – Bassano in Italy and the Catalan municipality of Sant Just. Moreover, the Self-Assessment Tool developed within the project’s framework was presented.

ACR+ will continue supporting regions and municipalities across Europe by organising such trainings with the next ones planned in the Spanish region of Navarra, Athens and at the Ecomondo environmental fair in Rimini, Italy.
