City of Warsaw | Reducing waste on marketplaces

06 October 2025 Members' News

The City of Warsaw has completed its project entitled Warsaw Marketplaces Do Not Waste, an eight-week educational initiative promoting reduced food waste, responsible consumption and the conscious management of household waste. As part of the project, selected marketplaces across the capital became spaces for demonstrations, discussions and hands-on activities aimed at encouraging residents to use food more efficiently and adopt more sustainable habits. The city organised zero waste cooking workshops, food tastings and sessions on planning purchases and storing food in ways that minimise waste. It also held educational meetings focused on correct waste segregation with particular attention to the organic fraction, as well as the use of reusable packaging and the broader value of reusing resources. Visitors could take part in games and workshops for both adults and children. In addition, it distributed reusable produce bags to reduce packaging waste and published a free e-book offering zero waste recipes and practical household guidance.
