Greater Pamplona | Celebrating the commitment to local composting
Greater Pamplona held the award ceremony for the 4th Home, Community, and School Composting Contest. The event recognised participants’ commitment to sustainable waste management, with prizes including vouchers for garden products, rural tourism stays, and cultivation tables for school gardens. A total of 24 entries were evaluated by a technical jury, which analysed compost samples collected in May and June. The organisation highlighted the high quality of the composts and the effective waste management practices demonstrated by participants.
Since 2006, the region has promoted home, community, and school composting, with 5 276 families and 43 schools currently taking part. In 2024, approximately 4 091 tonnes of organic waste were processed locally. Continuing its “zero-kilometer” approach, Greater Pamplona began expanding its decentralised biowaste management system in 2025 to further reduce costs and greenhouse gas emissions. A new incentive program will be introduced in 2026, offering waste-collection fee discounts to residents participating in composting initiatives.
