ACR+ member EMULSA seeks to extent its organic waste collection plan by the end of the year 2018 with the aim of providing this service to 25% of the population of Gijón.

Throughout the month of December, 175 containers for organic waste will be installed in the streets of La Calzada and part of El Natahoyo and Jove, for 33,000 inhabitants. This means that in total, at the end of the year, around 58,000 inhabitants of Gijón will have access to organic waste collection.

The process began in 2015 with a pilot experience one of the districts of the city, since then it was implemented in more districts. The 2017 sustainability report of EMULSA counted 491 tonnes of organic waste collected in 190 containers. This only represents 0.39% of the total waste collected by EMULSA throughout the year.
