ACR+ member Lipor has developed a system to address instances of incorrectly separated waste during the course of a project on residential door-to-door waste collection. The company, which is in charge of waste management in the greater Porto Region in Portugal, has found a simple and quick solution to notify city dwellers when they make mistakes in waste separation. Namely, its solution comes in the form of an orange sticker that is placed on the container(s) where the mistakes were identified. The sticker alerts residents that their waste separation is not compliant with the law and identifies the reason why that is the case.

The idea is part of Lipor’s efforts to encourage Porto residents to separate waste correctly and thus to increase the rate of recycling in the region.
