In September 2020, ACR+ member Madrid will extend the collection of organic waste to its centre, the only one of its 21 districts where it is not implemented yet. A recent analysis of how the Madrid population separate waste until December 2019, conducted by The Environment and Mobility Area of the municipality, shows very positive results: the purity of the content of the organic waste bin is over 80%. December 2019, broke the recycling record as the percentage of waste separately collected reached 38%.

According to the data collected by the General Directorate of Cleaning and Waste Services, the quantity collected selectively throughout 2019 increased significantly compared to 2018. In the annual average, the organic fraction was the one with the highest increase with 292%. It was followed by cardboard recycling (an increase of 33.1% for businesses and 20% for households), then glass (10.4% up) and packaging (6.71%). The total waste collected increased by 1.61% and, despite this, the residual fraction fell by 10.13%.
