ACR+ member Region Sardegna published its 20th report on municipal waste management to present the framework of the urban waste collected and managed in 2018 on the island. 755.951,71 tonnes of urban waste have been produced that year, that is an increase of around 3.6% compared to 2017.  However, the quantity of waste sent to disposal has been reduced while the selective waste has increased bringing the regional percentage of selective collection to 66.78% (with picks of 80% in some municipalities). Among the most virtuous municipalities, touristic areas have shown the ability to limit the impact of the increase of the population during the high-seasonal period. The introduction of PAYT schemes all around the territory keeps being the strategy adopted by the Region to reduce the production of residual waste.
