ACR+ member Sofia Municipality will submit a project proposal to improve waste management through the collection of food waste. The pilot project will include 1,000 households from the Vitosha and Bankya regions which will be provided with containers and installed sensors for the collection of food and kitchen waste.

The implementation of control and monitoring software will be used to record the movement and quantities of generated waste, both from each household and the total income for processing and recovery in the municipal enterprise. Through the software it will be possible to track the results of waste recovery and determine the optimal routes of garbage trucks. The aim is to see the readiness of citizens living in suburban areas for separate collection of food waste through individual door-to-door containers.
