A new publication, The Carbon Footprint of Scotland’s Waste – Carbon Metric Report for 2017 and 2018, tracks the impact of the Scotland’s waste, including the impact of the manufacturing of products that became waste. Data released by ACR+ member Zero Waste Scotland reveals 10.3 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent were produced in 2018. The carbon emissions associated with Scotland’s waste in 2018 dropped 11% on the previous year to reach the lowest level since official recording began.

The Scottish Carbon Metric is the basis of the Carbon Metric International, tool used by ACR+ and Zero Waste Scotland within the More Circularity, Less Carbon campaign. It will enable ACR+ members – starting with Pays de la Loire, Brussels, and Genova – to measure the carbon impact of their waste, take effective actions to reduce it, and track their progress towards the 2025 target.
