To encourage the reduction of collected organic waste, ACR+ member LIPOR is promoting home composting. As a first step and in order to better understand the impact of this project and measure the amount of food waste, which each participant in the home compost diverts to his composter, a survey was launched on the weight of the bin.

In this survey, 270 responses were obtained, with an average of 1.5 kg of food waste per bin per participant. On average, each person puts about 3 bins of food waste per week in their composter. With the 15,818 composters implemented (data for 2020) in eight municipalities, home composting allows about 3,970 tonnes per year of food waste to be diverted from the waste management circuit.
