ACR+ member Prato in cooperation with Alia and the municipal police, launched a project to install five intelligent video cameras able to intercept incorrect waste abandonment and immediately alert the competent authorities.

The photo-traps, which are small and can be camouflaged, will be active 24 hours a day for four consecutive days before being recharged, monitoring roads, isolated green areas and areas with dense vegetation. As soon as the camera detects some waste being left behind, an intelligent software will automatically send an email alert to the municipal police headquarters with information to help identify the culprit. Once the culprits have been identified, sanctions for illegal waste disposal will be imposed, with fines of EUR 600 and, in specific cases, criminal charges will also be brought.
