The selective collection of textile waste by ACR+ member Humana Fundación Pueblo para Pueblo has made it possible to recover 18,300 tonnes of used textiles in Spain in 2021 to give them a second life with an environmental and social benefit. The tonnes recovered are equivalent to 74 million garments, most of which will have a second life: 50% can be reused and more than 35% can be recycled. The 18,300 tonnes recovered last year in Spain avoided the emission of 111,700 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere. The reuse of textiles also has a social benefit: the resources obtained from the management of textile waste enable the creation of green jobs and finance development programmes in the countries of the South through local partners.
