UrbanWaste

A bit more than a year after its launch, the URBAN-WASTE Charter of Commitments continues to raise interest from other cities and regions, welcoming eight new signatories.  The city of Genova – an ACR+ member –, the Municipality of Krakow, Corsica, the city of Bruges, and the four Sardinian Fisheries Local Action Groups representing the entire territory of Sardinia signed the Charter, which now counts 27 cities and regions committed to a transition towards circular economy and sustainable resource management. The signatories mentioned the role of tourism and its contribution to the local economy but at the same time highlighted the fact that tourism must be kept within the boundaries of sustainable and the local and regional authority must provide appropriate waste management solutions.

On the initiative of ACR+, the Charter of Commitment has been adopted by another project, the Interreg MED BLUEISLANDS thus becoming a two-fold Charter bringing together two projects tackling waste management in touristic areas.

This Signing Ceremony, the last of the project as URBAN-WASTE is ending in May 2019, took place during the URBAN-WASTE’s Final Conference, organised by ACR+. Over 100 participants joined the project partners to hear about key findings, results and achievements but also personal stories and experiences linked to URBAN-WASTE. A summary of the day as well as presentations from invited speakers are available on the URBAN-Waste website.
