ACR+ member Area Metropolitana de Barcelona has published provisional data regarding selective waste collection in the municipalities of the metropolis for 2018. It shows that for the first time, after a decade of stagnation at around 33%, selective waste collection is expected to reach over 35%. The amount of collected waste that has been separated correctly should exceed 500,000 tonnes in 2018, 13% more than in 2017. This increase, which should continue in 2019, is mainly due to a change in the waste management system of some municipalities which adopted a door-to-door collection and a collection of commercial waste.
