The circular economy expert of Scotland, ACR+ member Zero Waste Scotland, set out the next key step needed to meet the Scottish Government’s landmark pledge to end Scotland’s contribution to the climate emergency by 2045.

But the net-zero target only deals with half of Scotland’s total carbon footprint because it focuses almost exclusively on emissions created within the nation’s borders. It does not cover 50% of the emissions generated from all the imports.

Speaking at a national conference on sustainability in Edinburgh Iain Gulland, chief executive of Zero Waste Scotland and president of ACR+, said: “We need to switch to a circular economy which places value on the wellbeing of people and planet alike by eliminating waste and the harmful emissions it creates”.
