From 1 January 2021, as reported by ACR+ member OVAM, citizens in Flanders can deliver their discarded mattresses free of charge to many distributors and to the recycling park. Mattress manufacturers and importers are now responsible for the collection and processing of mattresses in the waste phase. Until now, mattresses largely ended up in bulky waste. Nowadays, however, there are more and more recycling options. The new take-back obligation should enable their use and encourage more recycling.
