How much are tourism service providers together with food and accommodation providers aware of tourism’s impact on environmental and waste management in particular, what is their role in making tourism more sustainable and how to do it?
This webinar, organised by ACR+ in the framework of the URBAN-WASTE project, tackled these questions by discussing the measures developed by the 11 pilot cities and regions together with their local stakeholders from the tourism service sector, and their implementation in the island of Tenerife and Lisbon. Among the discussed measures: Food trackers and the WasteApp.
Some of the speakers included Mattias Eriksson of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences who led the development of the food tracker, a device which allows restaurants and other food caterers to monitor their food waste production, evaluate it and improve their performances. This device has been tested on the island of Tenerife and Mattias shared some preliminary findings. Pedro Teixeira spoke on behalf of the NEYA hotels in Lisbon, an important local stakeholder which has been following the project for some time and together with the Municipality of Lisbon is now implementing certain measures.
