In ACR+ member Wallonia, the mandatory sorting of biowaste for valorisation will apply to both individuals and professionals from 1 January 2024. The regulation imposes on municipalities, on the one hand, the collection of green waste, and on the other hand, the establishment of the necessary conditions so that all citizens can effectively separate organic waste from household waste for biomethanisation or composting, including at home. In practice, the solution depends on the areas and may include door-to-door collection of organic waste, depositing organic waste in voluntary drop-off points or recycling parks, home composting, or neighborhood composting. The sorting of biowaste for valorisation will also be mandatory for professionals. Any entity producing or owning biowaste will need to sort their waste and find an authorised collector or recycle their biowaste themselves to comply with this obligation.
