Halfway through Flanders' ambitious goal of reducing material use by 30% in daily life by 2030, OVAM and Circular Flanders have presented a snapshot of the situation. Some noteworthy findings include:
- Material usage in Flanders is no longer increasing; there's a slight downward trend observed for the first time.
- Repair and reuse practices are on the rise. In 2022, the total number of items reused amounted to 35.5 kg per inhabitant or 238 ktonnes of goods.
- To meet the ambitions, by 2030, one out of every two companies should implement circular applications, but currently, only 9% do so.
To achieve the goals within six years, it is imperative that consumers, businesses, and governments become more aware and incentivized to think circularly, according to Circular Flanders.
