LIFE FUTURE is a 2.5 year European project that started in 2015, co-funded with support from the LIFE financial instrument of the European Union. It is led by a consortium of 6 partners, including ACR+, representing both public authorities and research institutes.

Project co-funded by the European Commission under the LIFE+ programme, 2015 - 2018.

  • The first beta version of the GUF Tool developed!

The project consortium has continued to work on the design and development of the GUF Tool. During a meeting of the LIFE FUTURE project partners which took place on 27 September 2017, the first beta version of the tool was presented.

The Universitat Jaime I team is focusing on developing the part reserved to procurers. It will cover two main functionalities:

  • Generation of environmental criteria to include in the offers;
  • Comparison and ranking of different products depending on their ecological characteristics.

A testing period is scheduled in the upcoming months, once all the functionalities of the GUF Tool will be developed, a call will then be launched for public authorities willing to test the GUF Tool, support its validation and get trained for using it. Interested organisations can already make sure they will be kept informed of these different steps by becoming a LIFE FUTURE stakeholder.

  • Get closely involved in the LIFE FUTURE project, become a LIFE FUTURE stakeholder!

Amongst other benefits, LIFE FUTURE stakeholders will have the opportunity to participate in the development process of the GUF Tool. Interested organisations can fill in a support letter and/or contact ACR+ (Esta dirección de correo electrónico está siendo protegida contra los robots de spam. LIFE FUTURE project involves the development and validation of the GUF Tool, which is an online tool to support public bodies on the decision making related to the purchase of more environmentally friendly urban furniture.

LIFE FUTURE aims to promote green public procurement, focusing on the urban furniture sector. The project will allow to overcome the difficulties encountered by persons in charge of public procurement procedures when they have to include environmental clauses in call for tenders and assess the offers received, due to their limited knowledge on environmental matters.

The GUF Tool is an online tool to support public bodies on the decision making related to the purchase of more environmentally friendly urban furniture. It will guide users throughout the whole tender process, from the generation of the environmental requirements that they must include in the call for public tenders to the comparative environmental assessment of the products offered by different suppliers.

The GUF Tool will be used to perform real public procurements of at least 200 urban furniture products during the project. The number of products acquired with the support of the tool is estimated at 17,500 for the medium term (during the 5 years after the end of the project).

During the validation phase the GUF Tool, real public purchases of at least 200 urban furniture products will be made. It is expected that during the five years after the end of the project an overall acquisition of 17,500 products is carried out.

Using the results of this validation, a “green guide” will be prepared, which will be incorporated to the urban furniture acquisition processes of the city councils. The GUF Tool will be accessible both to the public administrations purchasing this kind of products and to the suppliers.

With the success of NEWAPP, the process will be of great industrial interest and benefit the waste management, renewable energies and chemical industries and maybe beyond – not only on European but also on global level.
