Closing the loop for European city life

This summer, European cities are buzzing with life—from festivals and outdoor events to vibrant public spaces. Yet alongside these celebrations comes a growing urban challenge: litter from single-use takeaway packaging.

As part of EU Green Week 2025, ACR+ will take part in a dedicated breakfast event on Wednesday 4 June at Norway House in Brussels, focusing on practical and policy solutions to reduce urban litter and promote circularity.

The event, co-organised by New ERA, TOMRA, the City of Aarhus, and the Central Denmark EU Office, will present the pioneering REUSEABLE system from Aarhus—the first city-wide, open managed system for reusable takeaway cups. Since launching in 2024, the system has collected over one million cups and achieved a return rate of more than 85%.

ACR+ Secretary General Françoise Bonnet will take part in the panel discussion, offering insights into the role of cities and regions in advancing reuse and circular economy strategies. Other speakers are from the European Commission, European Parliament, and the incoming Danish EU Presidency, alongside local and regional leaders.
