ACR+ and the Catalan Waste Agency to collaborate on a study on regulatory barriers and levers to reuse in the construction sector
ACR+ its member the Catalan Waste Agency have started a new cooperation to carry out a study on regulatory barriers affecting the reuse of construction and demolition materials and products in Europe. The research will look into regulations from countries and regions in Europe aimed at promoting reuse in the construction sector, with the goal of analyzing aspects or approaches that could be replicable, especially in the Catalan context.
The following aspects will be explored:
-
Regulations clarifying when materials extracted from a construction site, and intended for reuse in the same or another site, should not be considered waste.
-
Criteria or requirements integrated in public procurement that encourage the reuse of construction materials and products.
-
Obligations to carry out audits or inventories of materials prior demolition or renovation projects.
-
Experiences related to the availability of digital building logbooks or material passports.
-
Other regulatory initiatives aimed at facilitating the reuse of construction materials.
