ACR+ has just been in Bilbao for the 8th European conference on sustainable cities and towns, during which we were involved in a breakout session on circular cities as well as in the ongoing exhibition throughout the conference.

The event provided the opportunity to meet and discuss the need to change unsustainable pathways and the solutions to transform Europe's future, particularly during the breakout session on circular cities during which ACR+ presented its vision and highlighted the key role of local and regional authorities. The conference was also an occasion for us to showcase our variety of activities and projects, as well as highlight the strengths of the network and promote best practices from ACR+ members. It was also a great pleasure for ACR+ to be able to meet some of its members who also attended the conference, amongst which Aalborg (who co-organised the breakout session on circular cities), Warsaw, Nantes Métropole and Zagreb

Other ACR+ members were also present at the conference including: Municipality of Sofia, City of Lisbon, Barcelona and Area Metropolitana Barcelona.

During the conference the Basque Declaration, was adopted by several city mayors. The document outlines new sustainable pathways for cities and towns and acknowledges the need  for a technological, socio-economic, and socio-cultural transformation of our societies, in order to ensure quality of life for everyone whilst respecting the limits of our local and global ecosystems and available resources.

The conference followed a 2-day meeting of the PPI4Waste project that aims to help cities and regions to promote innovation via public procurement.
