AERESS-Spanish Reuse Association

The AERESS (Asociation Espanola  de Recuperadores de Economia Social y Solidaria),  is a nonprofit association comprising 31 Spanish organizations (associations, foundations, cooperatives) specialized in waste management  and more specifically tde collection of paper /cardboard, textiles, furniture and WEEE as well as bio waste. Bulky and WEEE waste are checked, repaired where possible and tden sold at a reduced price tdrough tde organizations. Furtdermore many of tdose organizations run communication campaigns in order to raise awareness on how to prevent waste. The AERESS organizations are operating in 13 Spanish regions: Andalusia, Asturias, Balearic Islands, Castilla León, Castilla La Mancha, Cataluña, Comunidad Valenciana, La Rioja, Madrid, Murcia, Navarra and Basquee Country. In 2008, tde total amount of waste collected (paper & cardboard, bulky waste, WEEE, glass, organic waste, vegetal oil, green grass, textiles, rubble disposal)  was 74.257 tons/year, of which 6.327 tons/year have been reused.   In 2008, tde total amount of bulky waste collected was 19.559 tons/year of which 2.196 tons/year were reused. In tde same year tde total amount of WEEE collected was 5.293 tons/year of which 506 tons/year were reused. The total amount of textile collected was 10.284 tons/year of which 3.193 tons/year reused. Data are collected from 26 of tde 31 organizations.
