Diputación de Castellón (Castellón County Council) is the provincial government of Castellón. Its main role is to support the municipalities of the province in the implementation and management of public services, including all services related to waste management. In this field it aims to implement a modern concept of waste management in the Castellón province, which can contribute to the environmental protection in coordination with related economic, industrial and territorial policies.

Javier Moliner Gargallo, President of the Castellón County Council (Diputación), gives us more information on the Country Council activities regarding sustainable resource management.

PRESIDENTE WEB INSTITUCIONAL BARBAACR+: "What are the main challenges on your territory in the field of sustainable resource management?"
J.M.G.: "Diputación de Castellón is implementing a number of measures to reduce the share of landfilled waste and to comply with the legal requirements for both waste recovery and separate waste collection. The valorisation of waste is a priority for us, that's why we are focusing our efforts on reintroducing by-products and sub-products of the production processes. We are also working on promoting the use of biomass as a source of energy".

ACR+: "What are your priorities in sustainable resource management for the current year?"
J.M.G.: "In the coming years we want to facilitate the implementation of a separate organic waste collection via waste management consortia and increase to the maximum possible the percentages of recovery in waste management factories. Moreover we are promoting the composting of sewage sludge along with the sustainable treatment of pig waste".

ACR+: "Could you share with us one of your main achievements, a successful experience and action implemented in the last months and/or year?"
J.M.G.: "So far, one of our main achievements is that the two waste management factories running under the authority of the County Council are the most effective within the Autonomous Region of Valencia. Moreover the Diputación successfully implemented procurement procedure for the separate collection of organic waste in the districts of Els Ports and Alt Maestrat".
