Food donation - Good Samaritan Program

05 June 2013

The Azienda Multiservizi Igiene Ambientale Torino (AMIAT) collects edibles food (cheese, meat, etc.) from the supermarket Auchan and edible bread and fruit from 120 Turin school canteens (representing 31000 meals/day).  All the food collected is delivered to 7 city aid agency canteens for the preparation of the meals. The system allows for the preparation of around 400 meals a day. Since the beginning of the project the amount of food collected continuously increased. In 2009 the total amount of food collected and delivered to the aid agency was 117 tons, going up to 126 tons in 2010. The Italian law that allows this collection is called "Good Samaritan Law".
